What is a Santoku knife?

Santoku, literally translating to "Three Virtues", is a multi-purpose knife suitable for many tasks including slicing, chopping, and mincing.
They are typically slightly shorter than a Gyuto/Chef's knife and have a wide and flat blade with a slightly rounded tip and a less curved edge.
Although Santoku knives are multi-purpose and can be used for meat, fish, and vegetables, the less curved edge may make chopping vegetables easier compared to the Gyuto/Chef's knives.
They are usually no longer than 7 inches (180mm), which makes them easy to handle in smaller spaces.
